In politics, lies and false claims are made and are not reprimanded. These lies can have many reasons. One of them is a political strategy: politicians sometimes use lies or half-truths to achieve their goals or to protect their image.
Another cause is lack of transparency: when information is not communicated wholly or correctly, lies or false statements can result. Difficulties in verifying claims or polarization can also contribute to accepting false statements.
However, it is essential to emphasize that lying should never be acceptable in politics. Politicians must be held accountable for their words and actions and should always strive for the truth. The media and citizens play an important role in exposing false statements and holding politicians accountable.
As private banking and wealth management leaders, relationship managers and decision-makers, we also should remember that honesty and integrity are the foundation for trust and cooperation. By prioritizing truth in all our actions and statements, we can focus on finding solutions that benefit everyone. The client is the most crucial asset in our business.
I hope politicians also understand this business model and do not lie to their citizens and that the media provide balanced coverage and not allow themselves to be used for propaganda.
Let’s not make lying en vogue.
