Not roughly. Not usually. At 07:04.

I never gave it much thought — until a visitor from abroad told me that back home, this would make the news.

Here it isn’t an achievement. It’s an assumption.

Which is exactly the achievement.

Swiss Reliability: Seven Centuries of an Agreement Between Equals

735 years ago, a handful of valley communities signed a short document. No template handed down from outside. An agreement between equals — to stand by one another when it matters.

What grew from it is a country where people rely on each other without checking every day. That is our real capital. It sits on no balance sheet, and it cannot be imported.

But reliability doesn’t happen by itself. It happens because someone does the work nobody sees.

The Work Nobody Sees

So today, a thank you. To everyone holding an office alongside a day job — in a commune, a canton, in Bern. Who read the file nobody else reads. Who stay courteous and still don’t give ground when someone from outside explains how we ought to arrange things from now on. Voluntarily. Mostly unthanked.

You hold together what never appears on the postcard. And without which the postcard would be worth nothing.

If you meet someone this evening who carries such an office — tell them.
Two numbers, then. 07:04, and 735.

One of them is only possible because of the other.

It’s the same test we apply in wealth management. Clients rarely remember what was promised in a pitch. What they remember, years later, is whether the file was still read carefully once nobody was watching, and whether the same person still picked up the phone. Swiss reliability was never a slogan for a brochure. It is a habit, kept quietly, by people who keep showing up long after the applause has stopped.

Happy birthday, Switzerland. And still our own.
