🕰️ Let’s journey back to the early days of digital communication in the finance sector. Long before email icons popped on our screens, businesses leaned on the Telex network. Introduced between Berlin and Hamburg on October 16, 1933, Telex was the go-to for speedy and direct message transmissions. The 1950s through the 1970s marked the golden age of the Telex.
💾 Flash forward a bit, and 52 years ago, Ray Tomlinson sent the first-ever email. For him, it was just a “neat thing to do.” In a world dominated by the ring of telephones, the idea of email felt somewhat… unnecessary. Before this email revolution, the nostalgic ring of landline phones filled our offices. Fax machines buzzed day and night while couriers zigzagged through traffic to deliver those time-sensitive documents. However, the true upheaval began in the 90s, when standardised email protocols took centre stage, cementing email’s role in business.
📈 For laughs, I’ve been compiling my work emails, for ten years. On average, I receive a staggering 24,000 emails and send out 10,000 emails yearly. This shows how central emails have become in our daily communication.
💌 One thing’s for sure: Digital communication has reshaped the corporate landscape from Telex to email. As for what’s next on the tech horizon? Who knows, but I’m here for it!
Happy weekend, everyone! 🚀
