In the beginning, we smiled and asked our colleagues: What can a Kindle do that an iPad can’t do?

Simplistic answer – nothing but razor-sharp letters on an old looking display. As expected, the ordering process at Amazon is straightforward, and the device is in the mailbox a few days later. Unspectacular.

The ink screen in the Paperwhite is impressive, and texts look as if they have been printed. The used display technology is so perfect that you get a still picture and even in the largest font the letter edges are razor sharp. The screen lighting ensures that you can always read well on the Paperwhite, whether in Dubai in the sun or under the duvet, without straining your eyes.

The battery lasts an eternity (>4 weeks) compared to a notebook/iPad. A Kindle Paperwhite is a constant companion on the way to work. Just turn it on, and it’s ready to go. WLAN download of the books takes just a few seconds – merely ingenious. We searched for gadgets and additional apps on the Kindle – but it is an eBook Reader only.

It reads like a book and honestly – we don’t miss the paper anymore. Especially since we always have more than a 1,000 books available no the weight of a book with me (206 grams).

Many of the books we have read to date were even available free of charge ( link). Besides, eBooks are almost always cheaper than paperbacks.

Pros: capacity, design, Amazon book store
Cons: none
